(Note: if playing in your web browser, playing in full screen is highly recommended)

You are the Yokai Master! In Yokai Revenge, you must take control of the infamous creatures of Japanese folklore and fight back against the greedy humans encroaching on to your lands.

  • Single-screen, slower-paced shoot-em-up-style gameplay, inspired by classic NES games such as Battle City and Smash TV. Destroy all enemies while defending your Yokai portal!
  • 12 types of Yokai, each with their own unique abilities, to play as or summon as minions to fight alongside you, including the ogre-like Oni, the trickster Tengu, and the mysterious Shirime
  • Battle 18 types of human enemies of the Edo era, consisting of peasants and samurai and more, armed with a variety of weapons and attacks
  • Buy new types of Yokai and upgrade them between battles to suit your play style
  • Fight across over a dozen types of levels, created using a mix of procedurally-generated and handcrafted terrain
  • Featuring music by MOMIZizm (thank you so much!)

While I consider Yokai Revenge a full and complete game at this point, I will continue to fix any reported bugs and make balance and content updates.

Although you can play the full game for free, if you do decide to pay, please understand that Yokai Revenge is a small game made by a mostly-one-man studio. The game is designed for multiple playthroughs, with replay value in mind, and a single successful playthrough could take an hour at most, depending on how many levels you choose to play.  There is some depth to the strategies and play styles you can try, however, the game is unlikely to provide dozens and dozens of hours of entertainment.

Imaginative, fun, and just the right amount of challenging. Love this game!
